What Happened?

In late fall of 2006, the real estate market prices on the west coast of Florida took an abrupt drop. In February 2007, I completed my last condominium project and found no buyers. We reduced prices, but there were no buyers. Finally, I reduced prices as much as 60%, which meant that all sales produced huge losses, but each sale reduced my debt. Since 2007, I have sold about half the units. Fortunately, my pockets were deep enough and all the units were turnkey furnished, so I became a vacation rental property owner. Since the units are managed by others, it gave me time to “stop out” and try to understand “what happened?”

My Mission Since Early Fall 2009

I am an engineer by education and a lifelong entrepreneur. I am a “numbers guy.” Having been financially damaged by the real estate bust, being inquisitive, analytical and understanding financial statements, I began a research program. My study led me back to the founding of the country and I researched forward. I read a number of books and discovered the nation’s current financial and governance issues didn’t “just happen.” In my research:

  • I identified specific events which lead to other specific events, which brought us to where we are now.
  • I also studied, really studied, the finances of the country. That led to some very unsettling conclusions. The readers of my early drafts tell me that my analysis of the numbers is what they find so stunning and unsettling.
  • I then looked at the governance and discovered what I call the Administrative Dictatorship under which we now live.

The Book

My research continued and eventually gave rise to my book – Government of Deceit – a sobering analysis of America’s finances, governance and society – and how we got here.

This is NOT a feel good book. Mostly, I report – The history is the history. The facts are the facts. The numbers are the numbers. And, the numbers do not lie. The bottom line is that financially, the U.S. government is in very, very, very dire straits. There are over 450 footnoted sources to support my analysis. Most sources are from the government – ones that anyone can find on the internet. I break things down into understandable concepts. There are over 165 charts, diagrams, graphs, lists and tables to enable reads to grasp the dire financial straits of our country. I believe that you will find this book… stunning. I wrote it and I do.

I believe that Government’s financial situation will result in “societal disruptions” no matter what path the government takes. The real question is: What will the country look like 1 – 5 years after the societal disruptions? My advice is to read this book and prepare for the future. And, vote in every election – starting this fall. Your FUTURE way of life depends on it.

Churchill said that “If you aren’t a liberal when you are 20, you have no heart and if you aren’t a conservative at 40, you have no brain.” My comment is, “If liberals actually read this book, they would most like come away conservatives.”

Godspeed to you and yours.
